Role description
Having secured co-funding from the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) programme is seeking the services of a power and energy consultant to support various activities associated with the Electricity Transition Playbook.
The Electricity Transition Playbook (ETP) is a tool to help policymakers build and deliver plans to transition to a clean electricity system. The ETP was developed in collaboration with CCG and with inputs from across the globe, and it was led by the Green Grids Initiative (GGI) from DESNZ.
The ETP is a practical guide to help a country navigate through the complex journey of the electricity transition. It is a tailored approach to shape the electricity landscape of each nation. It features nine interconnected building blocks of electricity transition with resources for each. All material is available here.
The ETP is typically delivered as one of the energy modelling tool pathways offered at our Energy Modelling Platform (EMP) Summer Schools.
Role objectives
The objectives of this role are to:
- Support the updating process of the ETP to include additional case studies
- Deliver training activities at different energy modelling platform events
- Provide administrative support during different ETP activities.
Duties
The consultant’s activities will be as follows:
- To support the organisation of an Energy Modelling Platform: the consultant will provide the organizers with all relevant information and documentation where necessary, supporting Loughborough’s administrative team with budgeting elements where necessary.
- To support the delivery of ETP training at Energy Modelling Platforms: Lead the ETP track during EMP events, sustaining communication and information flow with and between participants, trainers, and organisers. Also provide support after the events – in terms of reporting and potential participant questions, as well as supporting the lead of the CCG Energy Modelling Community in promoting that network to your students and graduates.
- To review and improve ETP material: The consultant will work under the guidance of the CCG Lead (Prof. Jairo Quiros) to refine and improve the existing ETP materials developed to date. This includes improving lectures and case studies based on feedback provided by the CCG Lead from previous activities. The consultant is expected to work closely with CCG Lead and GGI Lead to deliver improved material to be adopted by January 2025.
- To support the online delivery of the ETP: Once updated, the Playbook material will be re-submitted for online delivery, consisting of:
- Updating text for text-to-speech capabilities of the ETP within the CCG OpenLearn Collection.
- Final editing of material for accuracy, consistency across themes, and branding.
- Update and upload and test on the CCG OpenLearn website.
- To update Ministerial Pack: The consultant will work with CCG and GGI Leads to deliver an undated version of the ministerial pack (which we use to promote the ETP to senior potential clients) to better reflect feedback from previous ETP activities.
- To participate in Steering Committee meetings: The consultant will take part in meetings organised by CCG and GGI Leads to constantly improve the ETP materials.
To participate in Train-the-Trainer Programme: The consultant will engage in activities designed to enhance training capacity within the ETP track. Specifically, the consultant is expected to attend a training event in London, where they will train other ETP participants. This effort aims to build regional capacity, expand the ETP network, and enable the consultant to participate in regional events as a member of the ETP team.
