Camilo is a PhD candidate at the Division of Energy Systems at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. His research focuses on using Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) to model the interactions between energy systems and sustainability. He has developed tools to analyze sustainable transitions toward universal energy access. He is co-creator, developer, and maintainer of OnStove, an open-source clean cooking assessment tool that evaluates transitions to cleaner cooking solutions at a high spatial resolution. His work has provided actionable insights for policymakers in regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, Kenya, and Nepal. Camilo has also contributed to the development of OnSSET and the Global Electrification Platform (GEP), which use GIS to evaluate sustainable strategies for universal electricity access. His work at CCG focuses on providing technical and training support for the OnSSET and OnStove tools. This includes developing and enhancing course material, developing new model features and supporting and coordinating the evolution of the tools with the broader community. Beyond energy access, Camilo’s research includes using GIS methods to model Climate, Land-use, Energy, and Water (CLEWs) systems interactions, contributing to projects supporting sustainable development and cross-sectoral cooperation in water-scarce countries such as Jordan, Morocco and the North Western Sahara Aquifer System (NWSAS). Camilo holds a Master’s in Sustainable Energy Engineering from KTH, Sweden and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia.
