The Climate Compatible Growth Programme (CCG) has secured a Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) grant for The Green Grids Initiative (GGI) Secretariat project, running from August 2024 to 31 March 2025.
The Green Grids Initiative (GGI) is tackling one of the most important, complex and challenging problems facing the planet today – accelerating the construction of the new grid infrastructure needed for a world powered by renewable energy. We are looking for an exceptional Working Group and Delivery Officer to support the delivery of a new ambitious phase of delivery for the initiative.
About the role
GGI is a global ecosystem bringing together policymakers, politicians, financiers, investors, academics and innovators to accelerate the transition to net zero by driving action on the development and financing of green grids and interconnectors. As we say, “There is no transition without transmission”.
This role involves supporting the work of the ecosystem with a particular focus on the Africa Working Group (led by the African Union) and the Finance Working Group (led by CCG). This work will include secretariat and subject matter support to help drive delivery of their workplans. The role also involves assisting our delivery partner, CCG, to deliver high-quality training on the Electricity Transition Playbook across our network.
The Working Group and Delivery Officer will work closely with the Working Group leads and Chief Technical Advisor to deliver their work, and report directly to the Chief Operations Officer.
This is a full-time, short-term consultancy (self-employment) contract until 31 March 2025 (project extension beyond this point is subject to further funding). This role supports flexible working arrangements.
Activities and Deliverables:
- drive delivery of tools and engagement for the Finance Working Group, including assisting research and drafting of Climate Finance Criteria for Grid Projects and Finance Guidance Notes
- drive coordination and engagement in the Africa Working Group, including helping to grow the network and identify a pipeline of interconnector projects
- help drive delivery of the Electricity Transition Playbook training
- assist in the establishment of a Playbook Alumni Network
- help to develop case studies and model transition plans to facilitate the evolution of the ETP.
The Successful Candidate will:
- have 3+ years of professional experience or have recently graduated with a postgraduate degree
- hold a degree in environmental science, sustainability, public policy, green investment or other relevant disciplines
- demonstrate passion and interest in Environmental, Social and Governance, and/or climate and environment science
- have strong research skills
- be self-motivated with an ability to plan and organise themself
- have excellent time management and the ability to multi-task and prioritise work
- have excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- demonstrate strong communication at all levels both written and verbal
- ideally be experienced working with senior leaders and officials, or in a secretariat. (This is a benefit but is not essential).
