CCG at COP28
We attended COP once again in December 2023 with members of our CCG expert team. As a flagship FCDO-funded programme, we were keen to share our expertise and insights with stakeholders and potential partners across the Global South and beyond.
Briefs. Our engagement in COP28, revolved around four priority themes which we felt were particularly relevant to last year’s event – fossil fuels; data-to-deal; transport sector decarbonization; and global green grids. To find out more, browse our series of CCG COP28 Policy Briefs and related research.
Events. Each of these themes was further explored in our CCG COP28 Events Programme. We got the conversation started with some Pre-COP28 Webinars in the week of 20 November 2023, and followed these up with fuller CCG COP28 Events, both hybrid and in-person, during the period 3 – 6 December 2023, in and around the UNFCCC Blue Zone. In addition, we co-sponsored with SLOCAT the largest Transport Reception at COP28.
Bilaterals. We always view COP as an important opportunity to meet current and potential future partners for bilateral discussions. There are many exciting and impactful opportunities for collaboration and co-funding within our ambitious programme of applied research and country engagement to support climate transition in the Global South. For COP28 we produced a briefing on our Catalyst Facility to explain some of these opportunities in more detail. To discuss an opportunity, or for any other reason, please feel free to get in touch with us via email ccg@lboro.ac.uk and we will respond as quickly as we can.
We have an impressive track record of involvement and influence at COP, as our ministerial briefings to the UK government were instrumental in making COP26 in Glasgow such a success, when CCG had just launched. We look forward to continuing to make a difference in the global conversation on climate transition at COP and of course outside it.
