In terms of networking and getting involved, CCG opens a lot of doors
“I decided to study for a PhD in energy systems modelling at Loughborough because I already knew CCG Director Prof Mark Howells and he recommended it to me. I’ve been involved with CCG since the start, arranging CCG’s attendance at COP26 in Glasgow, for example. And I attended COP so got to listen to all the speakers and meet lots of high-profile people which was great.
Straight after that, I was teaching at CCG’s EMP-A online (during Covid) because I’d taught myself OSeMOSYS and other energy modelling tools for my master’s. It was very much non-stop with new responsibilities and networking which was great.
As part of my PhD, I told Mark (Howells) I was very interested in the suite of tools and looking at how they all interlink so I got involved with that. I did all the Open University courses and being part of CCG gave me direct access to the people who created them like the IAEA. Since then, I’ve been teaching FINPLAN.
In terms of networking and getting involved, CCG opens a lot of doors. I regularly email leading organisations and get involved in their workshops. So, I’ve got a big professional network for the future. I love the international travel – there’s at least one trip every year and I’ve been to Vietnam several times, Trieste, Costa Rica, Namibia, Brazil. Ghana. Yeah, it’s really nice.
I think communication and problem-solving skills are the most useful you could have for CCG because we all work remotely, and problem solving. In the future, I would like to continue the work that I’m doing, with an international organisation, maybe a partner of CCG.

My progression at CCG has been quick, yet extremely beneficial to me
My journey with CCG began in 2021 during my master’s at Loughborough University, studying two modules on OSeMOSYS and CLEWs energy modelling tools respectively. This led to me getting a consultancy position at CCG when I graduated.
Fast forward just a few months and I was running a training programme for CLEWs in Costa Rica, to a range of professionals from different (energy-related) backgrounds. I have since run CLEWs training at 6 events, with 4 more upcoming in 2025.
I am now currently a Research Assistant at Imperial College London, having taken on more responsibility in 2024. However, from the get-go, I was entrusted with a level of responsibility you usually do not get as a recent graduate. This has allowed me to continuously improve on my leadership skills, my communication and time management.
I have worked with colleagues all across the UK from institutions such as Oxford University and University College London, but also professionals from around the globe such as Anna University in Chennai, India. I am now currently the CLEWs Model Curator and Energy Modelling Community Lead.
My progression at CCG has been quick, yet extremely beneficial to me and taking on my current RA role has been one of the best decisions I have ever taken.’
