Advancing Capacity-Building and Financial Mobilization for the Energy Transition
The CCG-IEA Data-to-Deal Workshop (2-3 Dec, 2024) brought together global leaders, experts, and organizations to discuss and advance solutions for capacity building and financial mobilization in the energy transition. Held at the International Energy Agency (IEA) Headquarters in Paris and online,
The workshop’s main outcomes were:
Strengthening collaboration: Insights from diverse stakeholders across the Global South and international organizations laid the groundwork for more coordinated and scalable efforts.
Exploring innovative approaches to capacity-building: Initiatives such as Flatpack, which integrates EMP curriculum materials into MSc programs in the Global South; Bootcamp, focused on policy and academic outputs; the Energy Modelling Community (EMC), supporting EMP alumni; Train the Trainers, building local teaching capacity; and the Catalyst Facility, funding capacity-building efforts, were highlighted as key enablers of long-term sustainability.
Bridging planning and finance mobilization: Participants explored practical strategies to transition from decarbonization planning to securing investments and implementing impactful projects. Discussions also explored the types of capacity-building initiatives needed to bridge the gap between planning and finance.
