Data Management Workshops in Zambia. December 2024
Our colleagues Will Usher and Francis Tembo from KTH Royal Institute of Technology have just returned from a very productive week of meetings and workshops in Lusaka. They were there to discuss their work with CIG Zambia on developing a more structured approach to data management to support the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
Day 1 mapped the dataflows within the IRP already completed, and determined the best use of the data repository.
Day 2 featured one-to-ones with ZESCO Limited, and the Ministry of Energy
Day 3 was a high-level workshop to update the Ministry, Rural Electrification Authority Zambia, SMART Zambia – E-Goverment Division, ZESCO and others on the data repository work.
Will explains: “The aim is to establish an independent Centre for Sustainable Energy Modelling (CSEM) under the Ministry of Energy which is responsible for managing data needed for the Integrated Resource Plan. CSEM will work with all of the data providers, such as ZESCO, ZamStats, CEC and Independent Power Producers so that data is properly archived and recorded.
The CSEM data repository will be available as a public resource to make it easier to find energy data in Zambia, while ensuring the data privacy and security concerns and existing authorisation processes are respected.”
