Dr Sounthisack Phommachanh is a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Laos. His research focuses on fluid mechanics, renewable energy technologies, and energy systems modelling, with a particular interest in small hydropower, wind turbines, and integrated energy planning for low-carbon transitions.
He teaches courses in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, and energy forecasting, and has introduced OSeMOSYS into NUOL’s postgraduate curriculum to strengthen national modelling capacity. In 2022, he received the Encouragement Award of the 3rd Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Award in recognition of his contributions to sustainable energy research and innovation. He has collaborated on projects funded by international partners including UNDP, UN-DESA, ADB, and ERIA.
