The Climate Compatible Growth programme (CCG), based in the Centre for STEER ( Sustainable Transitions: Energy, Environment and Resilience) at Loughborough University, needs an Editor for its programme of publications, to provide service during busy periods or for when our Editor is away, as they will be at the end of this year.
There is a steady flow of work that comes from our academic colleagues throughout the year and there are some peak periods of activity when it is very busy, notably September to the end of November. The Strategic Communications Lead, Editor and Graphic Designer meet every week to discuss workload and related issues and update the work list. All work requests come through the Strategic Communications Lead first.

Most publications are research papers (long and short) and some are policy briefs in a more accessible style. You would need to ensure that the reports are coherent and understandable; concise and credible. Terminology tends to focus on climate-related subjects, policy and economics. We do not insist on a specific referencing system, but our authors usually use Menderley software for this. Our Editor edits this manually as necessary. They ensure that the full information (including urls/dois), is consistent and uses the [1], [2,3], [4-6] system for in-text references. They also support with finding the ORCID details from authors and create citations for each publication.
You may be involved with liaising with peer reviewers to progress a publication, and with relaying your recommendations to the authors in a diplomatic manner. You will support our Graphic Designer (who works remotely) with advice as needed.
You will be report to the Strategic Communications Lead. There is no need for office-based working and both the current Editor and the Graphic Designer work remotely. Examples of CCG publications can be found on our website www.climatecompatiblegrowth.com
An example of a marked-up report can be found here.
We will use industry pay rates for this role, reflecting your experience and the scope of the role.
To express your interest, please submit a statement of suitability (2 pages maximum) including details of relevant experience in editing similar documents. Please also supply a PDF of a recent example of your work in its completed design form. Please email both of these to: Peter Allen p.allen2@lboro.ac.uk.
CLOSING DATE for expressions of interest is 5pm, Friday 3 October.
